President Museveni Commends Ugandans for Embracing NRM Ideals at Tarehe Sita Celebrations

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the Commander In Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), lauded Ugandans for embracing the principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), attributing their acceptance to the country's developmental strides.

Speaking at the 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary Celebrations held at Busesa Grounds in Bugweri District, the President, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, expressed gratitude to the populace for their support.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of NRM ideals in fostering national progress, President Museveni emphasized the significance of combating corruption to further enhance economic growth. He underscored the imperative of bolstering security measures, noting the country's robust security apparatus.

Highlighting Uganda's collaborative efforts with regional partners, President Museveni underscored the importance of fostering strong ties to address common security challenges. He lauded the cooperation with Algeria, particularly in technology exchange aimed at enhancing security measures, including the introduction of electronic vehicle number plates.

Reflecting on Uganda's history, President Museveni paid tribute to Tanzanian and Mozambican support during the liberation struggle. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Ugandans, especially those from Busoga, in the NRM struggle, underscoring the region's integral role in shaping the nation's destiny.

Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo emphasized the theme of unity, peace, and democracy, urging Ugandans to uphold the legacy of the patriots who sacrificed for the country's liberation. She commended the UPDF for its discipline and professionalism, hailing it as a global standard bearer.

In response to requests for educational and infrastructural development in Busoga, President Museveni pledged government support, affirming plans for mineral studies training and commitment to completing the Bugweri District Headquarters.

Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, expressed gratitude for President Museveni's efforts in building a modern and resilient army. UPDF Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, underscored the significance of celebrating Tarehe Sita in Busoga, acknowledging the region's contributions to the liberation struggle.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards to individuals for their outstanding service to the nation. Earlier, President Museveni paid homage to the late Alhajj Kirunda Kivejinja, pledging support to his family.

Attended by dignitaries including Deputy Prime Ministers, former Prime Minister, NRM Secretary General, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Diplomatic Corps, the Tarehe Sita celebrations served as a reminder of Uganda's journey towards socio-economic transformation.
