Eng. James Nkamwesiga Appointed New Executive Director of Uganda National Bureau of Standards
The Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Fred Mwebesa, has appointed Eng. James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa as the new Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), effective May 13, 2024.
Eng. Kasigwa succeeds Dr. David Livingstone Ebiru, who was dismissed from the position in July last year after serving since May 2021.
The appointment was formally announced in a statement issued by UNBS on Tuesday.
The Bureau welcomed Eng. Kasigwa to the "Standards Family" and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the organization.
“The National Standards Council, Management, and Staff of UNBS congratulate and welcome Eng. James N. Kasigwa to the Standards family,” read the statement.
The Bureau also reaffirmed its dedication to its mission of developing, promoting, and enforcing standards to protect public health, safety, and the environment from hazardous substandard products, as well as ensuring fair trade practices.
Eng. Kasigwa brings to UNBS a wealth of experience spanning over two decades in leadership and strategic management within the fields of Science, Technology, Innovation, Standards, and the Infrastructure Industry.
An accomplished Electrical Engineer by profession, his illustrious career includes tenures with multinational corporations and significant roles in both the private and public sectors.
Before this appointment, Eng. Kasigwa served as the Director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation, and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
His previous roles also include serving as the Commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
The appointment of Eng. Kasigwa is expected to steer UNBS towards achieving its strategic objectives and enhancing its role in upholding standards in Uganda.
