President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially inaugurated the newly refurbished Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium.

The transformation of this multi-purpose stadium, spearheaded by businessman Hamis Kiggundu, marks a significant milestone in Uganda's sports infrastructure development.

During the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni lauded Ham Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham, for his remarkable contribution to giving Nakivubo Stadium a state-of-the-art facelift.

He commended Kiggundu's innovative spirit and commitment to prosperity in Uganda, hailing him as a shining example of the "yes we can" philosophy.

Museveni emphasized the importance of harnessing private investment to drive development initiatives.

He highlighted the pivotal role played by investors like Ham Kiggundu in revitalizing key national assets and spurring economic growth.

"Kiggundu is a real NRM by being innovative and knowing that you can get prosperity in Uganda. This is what we have been telling you."

President Museveni underscored the government's commitment to supporting such initiatives, noting the potential for job creation and economic empowerment.

Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, conveyed apologies from the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, for her absence at the ceremony.

He expressed gratitude to President Museveni for commissioning the sports facility and commended Ham Kiggundu for his investment in sports infrastructure development.

"The government gives sports each Financial Year Shs 70 billion. I want to thank Ham Kiggundu for helping us to have this asset ready for work."

He further revealed plans for the commissioning of the Mandela National Stadium (Namboole), stating, "95 percent of the works are ready for Mandela National Stadium to be commissioned."

In his remarks, Ham Kiggundu expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his support, which has been instrumental in the success of the project.

He urged fellow Ugandans to emulate his example and contribute to the country's development.

"I take it as an obligation as a Ugandan that it is my responsibility to develop myself and my country and do it collectively. This is a direct reflection of your effort and struggle."

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Executive Director for KCCA, Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, and other government officials.
