ATEI to Host Uganda's First-Ever Miss Climate Change Awareness Pageant

Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives (ATEI) is set to host the first-ever Miss Climate Change Awareness Uganda, a unique fashion pageant designed to accelerate women’s involvement in climate action.
The event seeks to empower young women as climate change ambassadors, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to raise awareness, advocate for inclusive policies, and actively participate in decision-making at all levels.

The grand finale is scheduled to take place on March 8, Women’s Day, at the Ministry of Water and Environment auditorium.
"Miss Climate Change Awareness Uganda will serve as a platform to enhance the visibility and capacity of women and girls in climate action." Noted Resty Mbwali, the Programs lead at ATEI.
Contestants will undergo a series of training workshops covering climate change policies, advocacy, conservation, and sustainable practices.
Mbwali adds that, "despite their critical role in adaptation and mitigation, their voices remain largely unheard in decision-making spaces, a gap that this initiative seeks to bridge."
Through this initiative, ATEI aims to elevate women and girls as changemakers in their communities.
Contestants will be involved in community projects, grassroots mobilization, and mentorship programs that position them as key players in Uganda’s climate resilience strategies.
Participants will engage in activities such as tree planting under the Pet A Tree campaign, environmental awareness campaigns, and policy dialogues to ensure that their contributions are recognized and their leadership is nurtured.
The winners will become climate change ambassadors, gaining opportunities to represent Uganda at global conferences such as COP30, where they will share their experiences and contribute to international discussions on climate change and action.
The initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Climate Action (SDG 13), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Bismac Amumpaire Moses, Executive Director - ATEI says that Miss Climate Change Awareness' major aim is to inspire a transformation towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
The event also supports ongoing efforts by UN Women Uganda to enhance women’s visibility in governance and climate-related decision-making processes.
Contestants have been selected through an online registration process, and consequently under went auditions evaluate their understanding of environmental issues, leadership potential, and communication skills.
The selected top 12 finalists are set for bootcamp where they will receive specialized training from climate and environmental experts.
They will also participate in mentorship programs, where they will be guided by experienced female leaders in the environmental sector.
