Uganda Premier League Unveils 2024/25 Fixtures with Key Doubleheaders
The Uganda Premier League (UPL) Secretariat has released the updated fixtures for the 2024/25 Startimes Uganda Premier League season, introducing key changes with the strategic inclusion of doubleheaders.
This decision follows the successful implementation of doubleheaders at Namboole Stadium last season, where BUL and KCCA FC shared the spotlight on the same day, drawing significant attention and boosting fan engagement.
The doubleheader format, where two matches are played back-to-back at the same venue, has been met with mixed reactions from clubs across the league.
While the concept was well-received at Namboole, with positive feedback from fans and broadcasters alike, several clubs have voiced concerns over the potential loss of home-ground advantage.
These clubs have expressed a preference for hosting matches at their traditional home grounds rather than participating in doubleheaders at neutral or shared venues.
In light of these concerns, the UPL Secretariat has carefully curated the doubleheader schedule to ensure that these fixtures are only hosted at venues where two or more teams regularly play their home games.
This move aims to maintain a balance between the excitement of doubleheaders and the preservation of each team's home-ground advantage.
The upcoming season will feature several notable doubleheader matchdays:
-
Match Day 3: Saturday, 28th September 2024, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo
- URA FC vs Mbarara City FC at 5:00 PM
- Express FC vs Maroons FC at 8:00 PM
-
Match Day 5: Saturday, 19th October 2024, at MTN Omondi Stadium
- NEC FC vs Maroons FC at 4:00 PM
- KCCA FC vs UPDF FC at 7:00 PM
-
Match Day 23: Friday, 11th April 2025, at MTN Omondi Stadium
- NEC FC vs Kitara FC at 4:00 PM
- KCCA FC vs BUL FC at 8:00 PM
-
Match Day 25: Thursday, 24th April 2025, at MTN Omondi Stadium
- NEC FC vs Mbale Heroes FC at 4:00 PM
- KCCA FC vs Mbarara City FC at 7:00 PM
Notably, there will be no doubleheaders at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe, despite it being a shared home ground for Lugazi and BUL FC.
This decision was made because the two teams do not have coinciding home game schedules, eliminating the possibility of doubleheaders at this venue.
The UPL Secretariat has emphasized that these fixtures are subject to change based on several factors, including television schedules, adjustments to the FIFA and CAF calendars, and the fulfilment of minimum club licensing requirements. Clubs and fans are advised to stay updated on any changes to the schedule as the season progresses.
