Tributes pour in for fallen legislator, Cecilia Ogwal

The country has woken up to bad news of the passing of Woman MP of Dokolo district, Hon. Cecilia Imat Ogwal who is said to have succumbed to cancer.

The unfortunate news was announced by the Speaker of Pariament, Rt. Hon. Anita Anet Among today morning.

Legislators and other notable individuals have paid tribute to the late labelling her as a charismatic and a brilliant leader.

"Some of us young ladies joined parliament because we used to admire Hon Cecilia Ogwal." Speaker of Parliament Anita Among eulogies deceased Dokolo Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa noted that; "You were instrumental in guiding and shaping local leaders, as well as advocating for a just global agenda where the voice of the global south was heard especially in the OACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. Your remarkable contributions will forever be etched in the annals of history."

Former Presidential aspirant, Dr. Kiiza Besigye noted that; "Hon Cecilia Ogwal was one of the few strong women leaders that our country has ever raised. She was very brilliant and charismatic"

The minister of Agriculture, Animal industry and fisheries said that; "Despite being in opposition her positions were always anchored on logic and reason and not extremism. 

When I was first appointed as Minister in 2012 .she told me "my son , as your mother in this house  I will be rebuking you in this house if u ashame me & do stupid mistakes". And truly, every time she criticized/rebuked me on issues of work for the sectors I led, I would listen and know its out of love and good will. True Parent, she was to many of us!"

The minister of works and transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala also shared his condolence message, "A lady who loved her country with passion. A nationalist who looked beyond party colors when addressing national issues whether locally or while in international fora. We have lost a political icon!"

The minister of health, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng had this to say about her fallen friend, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of Hon. Imat Cecilia Ogwal. She has been an iconic figure in shaping Uganda’s politics, and her wisdom will live on for decades to come. May her soul rest in eternal peace."

Dr. Ruhakana Ruganda, the Prime Minister emeritus and Special envoy of special duties in the office of the president said that; "I have heard the very sad news of the passing on of a political icon in post independence Uganda, Hon Cecilia Ogwal. Cecilia was a consistent leader who firmly spoke her mind about issues she believed in. She was a strong family person, an effective legislator, a patriot and God fearing. May the Almighty God comfort the family and rest her soul in eternal peace."

The Mityana woman MP Hon. Joyce Bagala noted that; "From her role in supporting the federal system during the constitutional making process in 1995, to her stand on the rule of law and good governance, Hon. Cecilia Ogwal's experience in Parliament cannot be underestimated.  My condolences to her family & friends 
Kitalo nnyo"
