UTB Joins Global Sustainable Tourism Council to Drive Sustainable Tourism Practices
Uganda, renowned for its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage, has taken a significant stride towards sustainable tourism.
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has announced its membership with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
Uganda embraced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, recognizing the imperative for inclusive and high-quality development planning to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Pearl of Africa's dedication to sustainability is evident in its integration of green growth principles into its National Development Plan III (NDP III).This initiative seeks to balance economic progress with environmental preservation, aligning with regional frameworks such as the African Union Agenda 2063 and the East African Community Vision 2050.
Lilly Ajarova, CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing Uganda's dedication to promoting responsible travel practices while preserving its natural and cultural heritage.
"The collaboration with GSTC signifies Uganda's proactive engagement in initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable tourism development in the region." Ajarova noted.
Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC, lauded Uganda's decision to join, highlighting its significance in promoting sustainable tourism practices.
He expressed eagerness to work with the Uganda Tourism Board to advance sustainability standards not only in Uganda but also beyond its borders.
