“I vow to be the next UJA president.” – Bukedde TV’s Jovan Kibirige says.
“I vow to be the next UJA president, I believe that once my leadership takes helm of the affairs in the association, stakeholders will witness real change.”
The Uganda Journalists Association UJA has for long been tainted with unscrupulous behavior within the people at the helm of affairs in the association.
Just recent, we witnessed the election vetting process being blocked by the Civil Division of the High Court in Kampala, the court issued an interim injunction halting the planned elections for change of leadership within the journalists’ body, UJA.
To date, the five journalists who dragged the UJA leadership that included Abubaker Lubowa, Zambaali Blasio Mukasa, Emmanuel Nkata, Hasifu Ssekiwunga and Martin Kimbowa are yet to receive the court’s final judgment about the matter.
Bukedde TV’s news reporter, Jovan Kibirige in a sit down interview with this reporter noted that the association needs to be rebuilt into a model institution that meets the needs of its stakeholders with leaders who are ready to stand on their ground mostly on press freedom.
“UJA has been taking issues and needs of its members lightly, you can easily associate them to dogs that bark but do not bite. Members now need leaders who are proactive and ready to build the association into a model institution that meets the needs of its members – press freedom being the highest factor.” Kibirige said.
On the other hand, Kibirige wants court to quicken the ruling process so that stakeholders get to witness a change in leadership in which he believes he can play a big role.
“I wish court quickens the ruling process so that UJA can reorganize the Journalists election process – I believe I can play a part in the forthcoming leadership.”
“I vow to be the next UJA president, I believe that once my leadership takes helm of the affairs in the association, stakeholders will witness real change.” He strongly claimed
“Once I take up the big office, one of the things I wish to strongly bring to the fore is press freedom – many journalists have been wounded and others lost lives in line of duty and the past leaderships haven’t done much to get the affairs of journalists worked on
“The other thing I wish to implement in the association is a savings SACCO, I have witnessed the same in SACCOs like the Wazalendo among others and its members have greatly achieved in it.”
