Minister Jim Muhwezi advocates for African Integration if the continent is to achieve sustainable security
During the dialogue on evolving global security and implications for Africa organized by the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE) in Kampala, the Minister of Security Hon Jim Muhwezi said that the lack of insurance on continental stability, sovereignty and independence there is urgent need for integration if the continent is to gain sustainable security.
According to Muhwezi, none of the 63 countries on the continent can guarantee their freedom and therefore it’s high time member states evolved to attain regional integration to change the narrative.
‘’Among other issues we should also focus on is building an ideologically focused leadership to guide the population’’ he added.
The Minister also hinted on the need to concentrate on industrialization to sort the high levels of unemployment and poverty on the African continent.
Muhwezi also called for the installation of strong democratic institutions that promote people’s rights.
The Executive Director ACODE Dr. Bainomugisha Arthur called for constructive dialogues as safe spaces to develop proposals to deal with African problems.
Bainomugisha further said Africa is currently facing successful military coups, terrorism incidences taking a center stage and also impacts of climate change and such engagements can come up with proposals that will easily deal with these problems because they are solvable if categorically looked at.
‘’Uganda is coming up with substitution to start producing its own steel and this is a daily fundamental intervention’’ Bainomugisha added emphasizing the need to deepen democracy and improve security as key in peoples productivity growth.
The President of Galilee International Management Institute based in Israel, Dr. Joseph Shevel in his presentation noted that education as part of the social structure can also change the world if well invested in and that both with Health are also part of National security.
Dr. Shevel also noted the need for Uganda adapt green energy and re-use of water as these will help to curb climate change which is also a major threat to security.
