Our services have increased the number of hospitals deliveries - Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau.
During the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) annual health assembly held at Pope Paul VI Memorial Hotel , the Bureau’s Justus Muhangi said that the diagnostic services installed in various cities have helped to ease health services to vulnerable Ugandans.
According to Muhangi, covid19 was such a challenge that needed their immediate attention to the average population that had abandoned various health centers due to the stigma behind the disease.
‘’The average number of women delivering in hospitals has greatly increased due to our community based services’’ Muhangi added, also enlightening that this is experienced in various cities across the country including Gulu, Jinja, Hoima, Lugazi, Luweero and many others where they have intensely camped.
'Additionally , we are glad that our medical centers across the country have increased on the services of HIV/AIDS testing and counseling that has become a threat in some parts of the country and this is observed in the increase of these patients number that currently is at 120,000 treated in all the centers yearly'.
The UCMB organizes an Annual Health Assembly at the beginning of their calendar year with the aim of orienting the catholic network and providing account for the catholic medical system for the previous year and this year’s theme was to ‘’Build a resilient and sustainable health system for improved service delivery in the catholic health network’’.
The UCMB has a total of over 30 hospitals across the country, more than 40 health center III, and also a number of health centre II and this network of health care services is regulated and under the surveillance of Ministry of Health.
In his opening address, the chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference Health Commission Bishop Robert Muhiirwa applauded all health facilities and practitioners who gave in their best during the pandemic and called upon them to continue improving their services as this is what their mission is to treat God’s people.
The Director General Health Services who was the representative from the Ministry of Health Dr. Henry Mwebesa thanked these Private Not for Profit (PNFP) health facilities for great partnership with the government during the covid19 period.
‘’We need to continue working together on promoting the District General Hospitals and participants from PNFP facilities so that they can access government scholarships and plans by government to slightly increase the Primary Health Cares’’ he added.
This year’s annual event was organized by the Uganda Episcopal Conference with partnership from Rocket Health Uganda and Joint Medical Stores.
