UWA Announces Resumption of Hiking to Margherita Peak with Enhanced Safety Measures
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced the resumption of hiking activities to Margherita Peak in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park, following a temporary suspension due to safety concerns.
With new safety enhancements now in place, UWA is confident that visitors can once again enjoy a secure and thrilling experience on one of Africa’s most iconic summits.
The highlight of the newly implemented safety measures is the construction of a sturdy bridge across the crevasse in the Margherita Glacier. This critical addition, along with the installation of additional climbing ropes, was completed in collaboration with UWA’s partners in the park.
These improvements address some of the most challenging sections of the trail, ensuring safe passage for all hikers.
“We are pleased to announce that hiking can now safely resume on the Margherita Peak trail,” read part of the statement from UWA.
“These enhancements are designed to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for all visitors seeking to summit this iconic peak. We have taken every measure to ensure the well-being of our hikers.”
In addition to Margherita Peak, UWA encourages visitors to explore other stunning peaks in the Rwenzori Mountains, including Mount Speke, Mount Baker, and Cheptegei Peak on the Stanley Range. Each of these routes offers a unique adventure, showcasing the unparalleled beauty and diversity of the Rwenzori Mountains.
UWA has also assured the public that they will continue to closely monitor the hiking routes to maintain high safety standards. The reopening of these trails marks a significant step in promoting adventure tourism in Uganda while ensuring that the natural wonders of the Rwenzori Mountains can be enjoyed safely by all.
Hikers and adventure seekers are encouraged to take advantage of the reopened trails and discover the majestic landscapes that make the Rwenzori Mountains one of Africa’s top trekking destinations.
