Africa Schools Football Championship Exposes African youth to diversity and different African cultures – Jean Sseninde

African football development advocate and legend Jean Sseninde has lauded the CAF African Schools Football Championship, underscoring its pivotal role in nurturing young talent across the continent.  

Sseninde who is a strong advocate for women’s football development in Africa said the tournament’s success does not only lie in crowing the champions, but its unique ability of creating a platform for growth. 

“This championship is a fantastic opportunity for young players to showcase their skills on an international stage. “It’s about more than just winning; it’s about growth, learning, and building a solid foundation for the future of African football”, said Sseninde.  

The tournament officially kicks off on Tuesday, 21 May at Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium, with the final set to take place on 25 May in both the boys and girls divisions.  

Sseninde, who was joined at the draw by Nigerian legend, Daniel Amokachi also highlighted the exposure to diversity and cultural experiences that the tournament gives to young Africans, adding that this is where the future of African football begins. 

“This competition allows young players to experience a professional level of play, an opportunity many didn’t have before. Now, these young athletes have the chance to seize these opportunities and grow. Such diversity brings different playing styles and cultures together, enriching the experience for everyone involved. This is where the future of African football begins”, she said.

 Sseninde also acknowledged the crucial role of the Motsepe Foundation in making the tournament possible.  

“We have to be thankful for the investment by the Motsepe Foundation. Without their support, these opportunities wouldn't exist. This investment has opened doors for young players and enabled the creation of initiatives and projects funded by the prize money.” 

Winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, runners-up each receiving USD 200 000, while the bronze medalists will each take home USD 150 000, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation to be utilized for development projects within schools.
