Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives Hosts 2nd Successful Climate Change Awareness Marathon and Green Expo.

With the resounding success of the climate change awareness marathon and green expo, Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives reaffirms its commitment to promoting environmental awareness, sustainability, and a greener future for all. The organization's ongoing efforts will continue to inspire and empower individuals and communities to take action against climate change, fostering a world where nature and humanity coexist harmoniously.

Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives (ATEI) recently organized a highly successful climate change awareness marathon/walkathon and green expo, bringing together individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to champion environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

In spite of the early hour, the invigorating morning breeze tempted numerous participants to forgo their Sunday sleep and gather at the location early, dressed in their athletic outfits.

Undisturbed by the potholes, these dedicated runners, eager to take part in the second installment of the Environment and Climate Change awareness marathon, displayed unwavering resolve. Their motivation soared even higher when Rosie Angoi the secretary general of Uganda National Commission of UNESCO  and H.E Jan Sadek, the European Union Ambassador to Uganda  flagged them off, riding alongside on his bicycle, accompanied by the Uganda People Defense Forces (Air Force Band), guiding their path.

Supported by UNDP, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Museum and National Forestry alongside POA TV, the event was also strengthened and attended by Ngamba Island, UN Women, UNESCO, Care International, NSSF, Miss Tourism and Ekkula Sustainable Tourism, Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Simba Telecom, Uganda Red Cross Society and numerous guests and environmentalists.

Mr. Amumpaire Bismac Moses, the team leader of Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives (ATEI), expressed his gratitude to all the participants, exhibitors, and sponsors for their invaluable contributions in making the event a resounding success. He highlighted the significance of such initiatives in raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and driving positive change towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

In his words, H.E Ambassador Jan Sadek, arriving in style on his bike, addressed the crowd, saying, “I would like to thank ATEI for organizing this initiative and to congratulate everyone for participating in this awareness initiative. I call upon all of you to be champions of climate change, ambassadors of sustainability, and advocates for a greener future.”

He added, “Together, we can drive the necessary transformations, embrace clean technologies, and foster resilience in the face of climate change. I assure you that the European Union will stand firmly with you in this noble endeavor.”

The event, held under the theme “Beat plastic pollution for a sustainable future," aimed to raise awareness about the climate change scourge and promote green initiatives for a greener and more sustainable future.

Each marathon participant was awarded a certificate and a tree seedling, serving as a symbolic representation of their dedication to fostering a more environmentally sustainable world through the Pet-A-Tree initiative. Proceeds from this marathon go to Greening Karamoja through the Pet-A-Tree initiative.

The marathon and green expo, which attracted hundreds of participants, kicked off early in the morning, with enthusiastic individuals of all ages and backgrounds gathering to demonstrate their commitment to climate action embarked on a scenic route through the city, symbolizing the journey towards a sustainable and resilient future.

The marathon and walkathon were not only physical challenges but also served as platforms for raising awareness about the pressing issues of climate change and environmental degradation.

In the green expo, participants engaged in lively discussions, shared stories, and exchanged ideas on practical ways to mitigate climate change and promote sustainable living amidst a vibrant band from UPDF Air forces.

Following the marathon, the attention shifted to the green expo, held at Uganda Museum, where a vibrant array of exhibitors showcased their innovative solutions, eco-friendly products, and sustainable initiatives. From renewable energy technologies to organic farming practices, the green expo provided a wealth of inspiration and information for attendees.

Every participant in the marathon received a certificate and a tree seedling, symbolizing their commitment to nurturing a greener planet.

One of the highlights of the expo was the interactive workshops and seminars conducted by environmental experts and industry leaders. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, including renewable energy, waste management, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity conservation. Participants eagerly absorbed the knowledge and practical tips shared, equipping themselves with actionable strategies to implement in their daily lives and communities.

The event also featured engaging panel discussions with renowned environmentalists, government officials, and community leaders. These discussions centered on the importance of collective action and collaboration to address the challenges of climate change.
