The reigning queen Miss Tourism Rwenzori, Sarah Kenyana Rusoke and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) have partnered to bring conservation debates into Uganda schools.

The aim of the conservation debates will largely be about teaching the next generation about the importance of conserving nature in the districts of Rwenzori and Kasese

This is also part of the pre-event activities of International Wildlife Day.

The Queen and WWF team will firstly provide orientation to students St Theresa Girls School, Kithobira Primary School in Bwera and Kibiringha Primary School.

Kenyana noted that the preparation trainings are about the role of debating as an art of speech and communication to enable children be a part of the mainstream ambassadors of conservation and climate change.

“Wildlife conservation has become an increasingly important issue in recent years, as the world's biodiversity faces a growing number of threats from habitat loss, climate change, and other environmental pressures.”

“One way to engage young people in this issue is through wildlife conservation debates in schools, which can help students develop a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting endangered species and the habitats in which they live.”

Kenyana explained why they started out with conservation debates in schools;

“Wildlife conservation debates in schools can play an important role in educating the next generation of environmental stewards and encouraging them to take an active role in protecting the natural world.”

She added that, “By raising awareness, encouraging critical thinking, fostering empathy, and promoting activism, these debates can help students develop a deeper understanding of the importance of biodiversity conservation and the need for action to address environmental challenges.”

Miss Tourism Rwenzori is one of the regional clusters of Miss Tourism Uganda PA; being managed by Africa Tourism and Environment Initiatives. WWF Uganda is one of the leading  conservation and biodiversity organisations that strive to building a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
