Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum Set to Strengthen Bilateral Relations and Economic Cooperation

In a bid to bolster the longstanding bilateral ties between Uganda and Tanzania and foster economic collaboration, the 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum is slated to take place from May 23rd to 24th, 2024, at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The announcement was made by Hon. John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/Regional Affairs, during a media launch and press briefing held at the Serena Hotel in Kampala.

Addressing a gathering of esteemed dignitaries, including Excellency Maj. Gen. Paul Kisesa Simuli, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to Uganda, and Amb. Mwesigye Fred, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to Tanzania, Hon. Mulimba underscored the significance of enhancing the win-win bilateral partnership between the two nations.

"Uganda and Tanzania have enjoyed warm and fraternal relations since the 1960s, grounded in a shared history of liberation," stated Hon. Mulimba. "It is imperative that we strengthen these ties further for the mutual benefit of our countries and peoples."

The theme of the forum, "Enhancing our Win-Win Bilateral Partnership," reflects the commitment to fortify existing partnerships and explore new avenues of cooperation.

Highlighting the vast opportunities for economic growth, particularly in light of projects like the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), Hon. Mulimba emphasized the potential for the private sector to thrive and contribute to regional development.

"The EACOP project alone is projected to generate $20 billion in revenues for Uganda and Tanzania, creating over 10,000 jobs and opening up opportunities across various sectors," noted Hon. Mulimba.

The objectives of the forum include creating awareness about investment opportunities in Uganda, fostering interest among Tanzanian businesses to invest in Uganda, facilitating knowledge exchange, identifying potential partnerships, and promoting Ugandan products for market access in Tanzania and neighboring countries.

The forum will feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, investment presentations, and business exhibitions aimed at showcasing the manufacturing and trade capacity of both countries. Additionally, interactive sessions will provide delegates with the opportunity to engage in business-to-business and government-to-business meetings, further strengthening ties and facilitating collaboration.

With participation expected from over 350 delegates representing the business community, government officials, policy makers, analysts, and development partners, the 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Business Forum is poised to be a pivotal platform for fostering economic cooperation and driving sustainable growth in the region.
