UNBS and Uganda Christian University sign Memorandum of Understanding to promote quality standards.
UNBS together with UCU Mukono on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote standardization and quality assurance in higher learning institutions.
According to the executive director of UNBS David Livingston Ebiru, students in these institutions arefuture innovators, industrialists and entrepreneurs who must appreciate the importance of quality standards as a tool for competition and market access to products.
‘’Given that the global focus of consumers is the demand for safe and quality products, we need to intervene by spreading this gospel especially in Universities and Tertiary institutions’’ Ebiru added.
In his remarks, the UCU Vice chancellor Aaron Mushengyezi pledged full support to ensure that the objectives of the collaborations are met.
‘’We are ready to work with UNBS in developing standardization curricular, trainings in short courses, research and internship opportunities for our students to ensure that the standards of this country are upheld.’’ Mushengyezi added.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed is to focus on undertaking research to support development of standardization, Participation in Technical committees involved in writing standards, Administration of course units in quality standards to students and also attachment of students to UNBS quality infrastructure.
This MoU that is also one of the many collaborations and partnerships the bureau has to promote the uptake of quality standards will also focus on joint implementation of projects to support standardization work and also participation in awareness activities to promote quality standards in order to increase the competitiveness of Ugandan goods and services both locally and internationally.
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards is a government agency responsible for Development, promotion and enforcement of national standards in order to protect the health and safety of the public and the environment against harmful and sub-standard products.
