Soroti University ICT Innovation Hub Launched to Drive Digital Transformation
Ministry of ICT and National Guidance's National Innovation Initiative Support Program (NIISP) has inaugurated the Soroti University ICT Innovation Hub.
This innovation hub aims to empower the youth with innovation space, digital skills, and connectivity, fostering an environment conducive to technological advancement and entrepreneurial growth.
The launch event, held at Soroti University in Soroti District, was marked by esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. Dr. Zawedde expressed gratitude for the milestone achievement, highlighting the government's commitment to promoting ICT uptake in higher institutions of learning and the broader business community.
With an investment of 750,000,000 UGX allocated for the establishment of regional ICT innovation hubs, including Soroti, Kabale, and Muni in Arua, Dr. Zawedde emphasized the hub's role in increasing job creation and addressing challenges faced by the youth.
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, underscored the hub's significance in bridging the gap between digital skills training and job creation.
He emphasized that the hub's purpose extends beyond idea generation, focusing on transforming innovative concepts into tangible solutions with real societal impact.
The Soroti University ICT Innovation Hub, according to Hon. Baryomunsi, serves as a launchpad for innovation-driven entrepreneurship, paving the way for economic growth and social development.
Prof. John Robert Ikoja, the Vice Chancellor of Soroti University, expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda for the state-of-the-art ICT facility and equipment provided through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
He highlighted the hub's potential to empower young people within and outside the university to develop community-centric solutions to prevailing challenges.
