UPDF Announces New Office Titles Following Official Launch of UPDF Establishment 2021

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has officially announced the adoption of new office titles, effective April 5, 2024.

The decision comes in the wake of the official launch of the UPDF Establishment 2021 by His Excellency, the President of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief, on February 17, 2024.

The renaming of offices follows the degazetting of old titles and the gazetting of new ones as outlined in the UPDF Establishment 2021.

Among the notable changes, the Chief of Joint Staff (CJS) replaces the former Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS).

Other significant changes include the transformation of Chief of Personnel and Administration (CPA) to Joint Staff Human Resource Management (JS-HRM), and the renaming of Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI) to Defence Intelligence and Security (DIS).

Additionally, Chief of Logistics and Engineering (CLE) has been rebranded as Joint Staff Logistics (JS-LOG), while Chief of Training and Recruitment (CTR) now operates under the title Joint Staff Training and Doctrine (JS-TRADOC).

Furthermore, the role of Defence Spokesperson (DSP) under the Department of Defence Public Information (DDPIO) has been redefined as Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO).

The Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO) has assured the general public that further explanations regarding additional title changes will be provided as needed, ensuring transparency and clarity in the transition process.
