Gabonese Transitional President Visits Uganda

At the invitation of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, Transitional President of the Gabonese Republic, paid an official visit to Uganda from 1st to 2nd August 2024.

President Museveni was supported by a high-level delegation including Her Excellency Janet Kataaha Museveni, First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, and key ministers from the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Veteran Affairs, Health, Internal Affairs, Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and Higher Education portfolios.

President Nguema was accompanied by Her Excellency Zita Oligui Nguema, First Lady of the Gabonese Republic, the Vice Prime Minister in charge of Planning, and ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs, Sub-Regional Integration, Gabonese Abroad, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.

During their discussions, President Nguema updated President Museveni on Gabon's political situation, specifically the progress of the transition timetable and the upcoming referendum. President Museveni commended the steps taken by Gabon's transitional government towards a return to constitutional democracy.

Both leaders welcomed the efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Gabon and expressed a strong desire to intensify collaboration for the mutual benefit of their peoples. They committed to boosting and broadening cooperation in various sectors.

President Nguema highlighted Gabon's aspiration to end dependence on food imports and expressed interest in benefiting from Uganda's experience in agricultural development, particularly in wealth creation programs.

The principals exchanged views on regional, continental, and international issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to continue collaborating at all levels.

President Nguema expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. In return, he extended an invitation to President Museveni to pay a state visit to Gabon at a mutually agreed-upon date, to be communicated through diplomatic channels.
