Rt Hon Anita Among, Receives Blessings for Her Twins from Pope Francis in Vatican
In a private engagement at the Vatican Palace on Saturday, Uganda's Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among, presented her newborn twin babies to Pope Francis. The Pope, in a special moment of grace, blessed the children.
This visit, the fourth for Hon Among with the head of the Catholic Church, follows closely after their most recent meeting in August of last year. During that encounter, Pope Francis blessed the Speaker’s marriage to FUFA President Moses Magogo and her pregnancy, further deepening the spiritual bond between the Ugandan leader and the Pontiff.
A brief statement from the Speaker’s office confirmed the significance of the visit, stating, "She also held discussions with His Eminence Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Uganda and the Vatican."
Social media quickly buzzed with viral videos of the encounter, showing the Speaker, visibly humbled, kneeling before Pope Francis as she greeted him. The two shared a warm conversation, with the Pope offering blessings and gifts to the Speaker and her twins. In a poignant moment captured on camera, the Speaker, accompanied by a small delegation, presented her babies to the Pontiff, who prayed over them.
In a gesture of gratitude and continued goodwill, Speaker Among extended an invitation to Pope Francis to visit Uganda once again. "You are welcome again. Uganda loves you so much," she said.
The Pope last visited Uganda in November 2015, a historic two-day visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni, which left a lasting impact on the nation.
