Entebbe Botanical Gardens Handed Over to Ministry of Tourism, Under UWEC Management
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja yesterday handed over Entebbe Botanical Gardens to the management to Uganda Wildlife Education Conservation Centre (UWEC) under the supervision of Ministry of Tourism.
The 40-acre gardens have been under the management of National Agriculture Research Organisation (NARO) under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The handover ceremony was held at the offices NARO Uganda where the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries officially transferred the management of the Entebbe Botanical Gardens to the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities.
The Honorable Prime Minister of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja emphasized the government's dedication to conserving biodiversity and boosting tourism.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister also expressed the commitment of the government towards enhancing the role of Entebbe Botanical Gardens beyond its current scope.
The gardens are set to undergo development and receive necessary resources to facilitate tourism, conservation education, awareness creation, and recreation, among other activities.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of preserving biodiversity and leveraging the potential of Entebbe Botanical Gardens as a hub for environmental education.
"The expansion of EBG's mandate aligns with the government's broader vision of sustainable development and the promotion of Uganda as a prime destination for eco-tourism."
