Dr. Pamela Achii, PSU President says there is still much that scientists are yet to understand about the medicine, which is yet to undergo clinical trials.

For diabetic patients, Covidex may reduce blood sugar significantly which then throws someone into a state of hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycemia is the reduction of sugar levels in the body which can cause brain damage and lead to long-term impairments in memory.

For pregnant women, berberine a major ingredient in the drug is know can cross to the placenta & cause harm to the fetus.

Research shows that Kernicterus, a type of brain damage, has developed in newborn infants exposed to berberine.
Dr. Achii calls upon pregnant women and diabetic patients to halt the usage of the drug for now.
