Museveni asks judiciary to focus on corruption fight, for its hindering economic development

While officiating the New law year at judiciary head quarters, President Yoweri Museveni asked the judiciary to focus on protection of peoples property, embezzlement and corruption especially among government officials for this will in the long run accelerate the country’s economic development.
Museveni also hinted on why he named his son also command of land forces ‘Muhoozi’
“I have been quarrelling about this issue of bail. It’s a provocation. In my culture, when you wrong me, my clan has a duty to avenge," Museveni said. “My son’s name – Muhoozi, means that he will be the one to avenge me in case something wrong is done to me. The clan, in this case revenges on behalf of the offended,” he said
In his speech, the Chief Justice Hon. Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo pledged his commitment to addressing case backlog as well as bringing Courts of law nearer to the people, advancing ICT and other technologies at all stages in delivery of Justice, enhancing human resource capacity in terms of numbers and commitment, revising Court rules and case management processes .
While noting the judiciary’s 2021 achievements, the Chief Justice asked Museveni to enhance the judiciary budget.
In his remarks, the Attorney general Hon. Kiryoowa Kiwanuka informed President Museveni that he is working closely with the Judiciary to submit to cabinet for its approval on the bill to amend the Judicature Act that aims at increasing Judges of the Supreme Court from 11 to 21, those of Courts of Appeal from 15 to 56 and those of the High Court from 83 to 151.
The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, Ambassadors from Belgium, Australia and the European Union Members of Parliament and others.
