'Get involved in your children's learning' -Minister urges parents.
While addressing the media today at the launch of “Go back to School Campaign” at the Media center in Kampala, the state Minister for Primary Education Joyce Moriku Kaducu urged parents to involve in their children’s learning because education brings dignity, hope and wellbeing to children.
According to the Minister, there have been cases from the public about the unrealistic and prohibitive school fees charges which are denying access to basic education for a number of learners but this shouldn't worry them because the Ministry is working hard to stop this vice.
“The Education and Sports Ministry has noted that a number of schools especially Boarding Secondary Schools have increased fees dues” but this was prohibited and action has been already taken to all those increasing fees dues she added.
In their efforts of encouraging parents to take back all children at school, the Ministry in partnership with Save the children a non profit organization have launched a campaign of encouraging parents to get their children back to school and according to the Director of Basic Education Ismail Mulindwa they are also targeting those learners thinking of whether or not they should come back to return to school.
According to Biverly one of the spear heads of this campaign, the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions put in place to contain its spread, including school closures in Uganda and the rest of the world, created an unprecedented crisis in education and this campaign that will be supported by government and partners across Uganda will ensure that every child goes back to school safely.
“If you are a young woman who has had a child,or If you are a child with a disability you have the right to go back to school today the education system in Uganda is there to support you” she added emphasizing that education prepares them for the world of work, brings hope and dignity to children and their families, and it opens doors to a
prosperous life filled with knowledge, experiment, and wonder.
There will be messages on selected television and radio stations, posters and offline channels like community radios and caravans country wide to publicize this program the all aimed at impressing the importance to caregivers of sending children back to school
