Spread Joy Initiative Launched to Champion Mental Wellness and Social Impact
Spread Joy-AMJ Initiative, a newly established non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental wellness, foster compassion and drive positive social change through acts of kindness and community engagement, has officially launched its operations with a heartwarming outreach event at Hospice Africa Uganda in Kampala.
The initiative aims to inspire hope, empower individuals, support vulnerable groups and encourage a culture of social responsibility through practical interventions and meaningful community partnerships.

Hosted at Hospice Africa offices, the event provided participants with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of palliative care and its critical role in improving the quality of life for patients living with life-limiting illnesses.
Guests were taken through the philosophy and practice of palliative care, learning how specialized medical, emotional and psychosocial support helps patients and their families navigate some of life's most challenging circumstances with dignity and comfort.
As part of the launch activities, participants toured the Hospice Africa Uganda facility, including the renowned morphine production unit, which plays a significant role in ensuring pain management for patients requiring palliative care services.
The tour offered valuable insight into the institution's efforts to make quality care accessible to those in need and highlighted the importance of holistic healthcare approaches.

The event also included interactions with five in-patients receiving care at the facility, allowing guests to witness firsthand the impact of compassion, empathy and dedicated medical support on patients and their families.
Beyond the facility, the Spread Joy Initiative team extended its outreach into the surrounding community where they visited two out-patients
Speaking during the launch, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at Makerere University, Prof. Henry Mwanaki, commended the initiative for choosing to begin its journey by engaging with some of the most vulnerable members of society.
He encouraged young people to embrace volunteerism and social responsibility as tools for positive change.

Also present was Dr. Sylvia Tumuheirwe Alinaitwe, Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga District, who applauded the founders for championing a cause that addresses both mental wellness and community support.
She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in creating inclusive communities where every individual feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive.
The founder of Spread Joy-AMJ Initiative, Alinaitwe Martha Joy, said the organization was born out of a desire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives through simple yet impactful acts of kindness.
"We believe that every act of kindness, no matter how small, has the power to transform lives. Spread Joy-AMJ Initiative was established to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

Our mission is to spread hope, light and love in communities while promoting mental wellness and building partnerships that create lasting social impact.
Today's launch marks the beginning of a journey dedicated to uplifting vulnerable individuals and inspiring a culture of compassion across society," she said.
In a small gesture, members of the Spread Joy Initiative team carried with them assorted day-to-day essential items, which they donated to patients receiving care.
The items, aimed at supporting the well-being and comfort of the beneficiaries, were warmly received by both patients and caregivers.
