Explore Busoga campaign aims to spotlight hidden gems in the region - Says Tourism Minister Mugarra
The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) has launched the Explore Busoga campaign (5th edition of the Explore Uganda domestic tourism promotion series) aimed at spotlighting the magnificent sights and wonders in the Busoga region. This will run from February 13th-17th.
While unveiling the long-awaited tourism campaign at Emin Pasha hotel in Kampala, the minister of Tourism, Hon. Martin Mugarra noted that we must continuously tell the stories of the Pearl and the results will show in the long run.
"These domestic tourism campaigns are aimed at creating awareness about existing attractions, spotlighting hidden gems, reviving regional tourism clusters and birthing new itineraries among others."
"The ‘vibe’ of the campaign seeks to interest the citizens in traveling and exploring their country." Said the Minister.
He also added that; "The benefits might NOT all be immediate, but the efforts will yield more in the long run. This is why we continue to conduct these campaigns."
Mugarra noted that their has been a gradual increase in the number of local tourists since the outbreak of COVID 19 noting that at least 1.2 million local visitors have been registered by the end of 2023.
This, he attributes to existing domestic tourism promotion campaigns and strategies as well as the rebrand of destination Uganda "Explore Uganda, the pearl of Africa."
The Explore Busoga official flag-off is slated for February 15th comprising of over 300 local travelers and will setoff from Uganda Museum.
