Mini Launch of the 3rd Climate Change Awareness Marathon

Mini Launch of the 3rd Climate Change Awareness Marathon

In the aftermath of the Environment Parliament, presided over by Rt. Hon. Amanya Belinda, Speaker of the Environment Parliament, the 3rd Climate Change Awareness Marathon was officially launched.

The plenary highlighted urgent issues including toxic air pollution in Kampala, rapid deforestation, biodiversity loss, the demand for climate justice, and the need to strengthen resilience in vulnerable regions such as Karamoja.

Leaders Speak Out

In her address, Rt. Hon. Amanya Belinda hailed the innovation and energy of Uganda’s youth.

“The Environment Parliament is not just about talk but about action. Today we celebrate the creativity and courage of young people through ATEI’s Climate Change Awareness Marathon.

Miss Climate Change (Central Uganda), Maureen Nabule, inspired fellow young people with her message:

“As young leaders, we must act now. This marathon shows that youth are not just watching—we are running, innovating, and shaping a greener Uganda.”

Adding a sobering reality check, Bismac Amumpaire, Team Lead of ATEI, said:

“Every year, more than 987 Ugandans lose their lives due to polluted air and climate-related illnesses. This silent crisis is why we must run—for life, for justice, and for our future.”

About the Marathon

This year’s marathon is special—it’s the first in Uganda’s history to be held on a Monday, aligning with World Car Free Day.

It will be held at Makerere University Freedom Square under the theme: “Mobility for a Green and Sustainable Future: Youth Innovation and Action for Climate Justice.”

Participation: Marathon Kit – UGX 25,000, Green Expo Stall – UGX 50,000

Proceeds will directly support climate awareness campaigns and resilience projects in Karamoja.
