Gov't to Spend 10 Billion on Establishment of National Kiswahili Council

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development is set to allocate Shs10 billion for the establishment and operationalization of the Uganda National Kiswahili Council, following a regional commitment within the East African Community (EAC).

The revelation was made during a committee meeting where it was highlighted that neighboring countries Kenya and Tanzania have already established similar councils.

Honorable Flavia Kabahenda, speaking on behalf of the Cabinet, emphasized the importance of the council's establishment, stating,

"Cabinet approved the waiver to establish the Uganda National Kiswahili Council in order to recruit and pay staff salaries and initial operations of the Council."

Kiswahili, as a widely spoken language in East Africa, plays a pivotal role in fostering unity and communication across borders.

The establishment of the council is expected to facilitate the promotion and preservation of Kiswahili language and culture within Uganda.

With the allocated funds, the Kiswahili Council aims to initiate its operations, including the recruitment of staff and the implementation of key programs.
