Ugandan athletes competing in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games have more than just medals to look forward to.

The Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, made a momentous announcement, revealing that medal winners will receive unprecedented cash prizes from the Ugandan government.

During his visit to the Team Uganda Camp at the Games Village, Hon. Ogwang disclosed that gold medal winners will receive Shs 100 million each, silver medalists will be awarded Shs 50 million, and bronze medalists will earn Shs 30 million.

This prize money, the largest in Uganda's history, will be provided by the Ministry of Education and Sports through the National Council of Sports.

"These rewards reflect our commitment to supporting and motivating our athletes," Hon. Ogwang said.

"We recognize their hard work and dedication, and we want to ensure they are duly compensated for their achievements on the global stage."

Swimming, cycling, and athletics are the disciplines where Ugandan athletes are strong contenders for these record-breaking rewards.

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm and excitement within the Team Uganda Camp, as athletes now have even more incentive to aim for the podium.
