Jacob Kiplimo starts new year with 10km win in Valencia

Uganda's long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has started off the year 2024 on a positive note having secured a win in the 10-kilometer run in Valencia.

Jacob Kiplimo emerged victorious in the 10-kilometer Valencia Ibercaja Road Race, clocking an impressive 26 minutes and 53 seconds.

The 2023 World Cross Country Champion dominated the race, with Bahrain's Balew Birhanu trailing at 26 minutes and 59 seconds, securing second place. Kenya's Peter Mwaniki Aila claimed the third spot in 27 minutes flat.

Maintaining a commanding lead from the start, Kiplimo covered the initial 5 kilometers in just 13 minutes and 30 seconds, leaving rival Denis Kibet behind.

Expressing optimism for 2024, Kiplimo stated, "It’s a good start for 2024, and I look forward to advancing in my training for major Athletics events, like the World Cross Country and Olympics."

Uganda's Rogers Kibet secured the 8th position with a time of 27 minutes and 35 seconds, while Joy Cheptoyek finished 5th in the women’s category at 30 minutes and 12 seconds, in a race won by Kenya’s Agnes Chebet.

Njia Benjamin, the vice president of technical at Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), sees the outstanding performance as a promising beginning for Team Uganda's season.
