37 students killed in a suspected ADF rebel attack on school in Kasese
The country has this morning woken up on shocking news about an attack by suspected ADF rebels on a school.
Officials say that the incident happened last night 16th June at about 11:30pm when about 5 suspected ADF rebels attacked Mpondwe/Lubiriha Secondary School.
“A group of ADF terrorists attacked Mpondwe/Lubiriha Secondary School (privately owned) in Nyabugando parish, Karambi Sub County in Kasese District.” A statement by Defense spokesperson read in part.
The spokesman Felix Kulayigye noted that they received information and shortly swung into action.
“Shortly our forces received this information and moved in quickly.”
He adds that, “Intelligence revealed that this attack was by suspected ADF rebels who were about 5 in number.”
“The 5 Mountain Battalion Commander together with other sister forces advanced to the scene.”
He notes that they managed to recover 37 bodies and that part of the school dormitory was in flames.
“On arrival, the school was found burning with dead bodies of students lying in the compound with the school food store broken into, posho and beans taken.”
“37 bodies have been discovered and conveyed to Bwera hospital mortuary and 8 casualties taken to Bwera government hospital, 3 rescued alive and 6 were abducted.”
He says their pursuit for the perpetrators is ongoing.
"UPDF embarked on pursuing the perpetrators to rescue the abducted students and destroy the group."
He also noted that the President dispatched his wife who is also the minister of education and sports Janet Museveni to commiserate with the school.
