Former Rubaga division resident city commissioner (RCC) Anderson Herbert Burora has been charged with hate speech and malicious misinformation against the state according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango.
Onyango says Burora is currently detained at Kira Road police division facing two charges of hate speech and malicious misinformation against the state, contrary to the 2022 Computer Misuse Act.
Onyango explains that the suspect committed all the offences using his X account, and his file has been sanctioned by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). According to the charge sheet, Burora committed the offences between March and June this year after he shared information likely to ridicule or degrade, mean and promote hostility against speaker Annet Anita Among.
“These are serious crimes against the state, and we all appeal to the general public to avoid involving in such crimes of using social media but rather use it carefully without misinforming the public,” Onyango has said.
Burora was earlier in March this year suspended from office for allegedly violating public service standing orders after he accused Among of being corrupt and shielding the corrupt at parliament.
Afterwards, Burora turned his verbal guns towards the Inspectorate of Government Betty Kamya, accusing her of failing to execute her mandate, calling her to immediately resign for failure to fight corruption.
Burora recently handed in his resignation letter, saying he wasn't ready to take on any ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) job, citing the increased rate of corruption among party members and supporters.
