Gov't Signs Cooperation Agreement with MultiChoice Africa to Boost Digitalisation of Local Content

Government of Uganda through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, has signed a new cooperation agreement with MultiChoice Africa Holdings B.V. (MAH).

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to establish stronger partnerships, protect intellectual property rights, and develop skills within Uganda's digital landscape.

The signing ceremony took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, chosen for its advanced technical facilities, as detailed in the official press release.

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of ICT, signed on behalf of the Ugandan government.

"This MoU is a crucial step in fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors for the broader benefit of Ugandan society. We are pleased to partner with MultiChoice Africa and look forward to the positive impact this agreement will have on our digital and local content sectors," said Dr. Zawedde.

The MoU includes MultiChoice Africa Holdings and its local partner, MultiChoice Uganda, and provides for ongoing cooperation between the two entities and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.

This partnership aims to strengthen future collaborations, focusing on digitalisation, enhancing local content production, and protecting intellectual property rights.

"I am glad to sign this MoU on behalf of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for Uganda," Dr. Zawedde added.

MultiChoice has been a key player in Uganda for 30 years, providing quality sports, educational, and entertainment content.

The agreement marks a new phase in this longstanding relationship, emphasizing the importance of Uganda as a strategic market for MultiChoice's commercial growth and socio-development initiatives.
