7th Water, Environment, and Climate Change Week Kicks Off with Call for Collective Action on Climate Crisis

The 7th Uganda Water, Environment, and Climate Change Week (#UWEWK24) commenced with a ceremonial opening led by the Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera.

This edition is running under the theme "Rethinking collective action and innovative solutions to water, environment, and climate change crisis in Uganda,".

The week-long event aims to spark discussions and initiatives to address pressing environmental challenges.

In his address, Justice Buteera underscored the critical role of water and environmental resources as essential components for sustaining life and fostering development.

He emphasized the need for collective action in tackling climate change, urging stakeholders to join efforts in finding innovative solutions to environmental crises.

The Minister of Water and Environment, Hon. Sam Cheptoris, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of partnerships in organizing such annual events.

He emphasized the collaborative nature of addressing water, environment, and climate change issues, calling upon all stakeholders to come together in support of these initiatives.

The opening ceremony also saw a vote of thanks delivered by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water and Environment, Mr. Alfred Okidi, who expressed gratitude to partners and collaborators for their ongoing support.

Throughout the week, various exhibitions and activities will be held to showcase innovative solutions and promote awareness about water, environment, and climate change issues.

Stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector are expected to participate, contributing their expertise and insights to the discussions.
