Museveni Greenlights USD 4.6 Million Investment for Kampala Marathon

A high-level meeting convened at State House Entebbe, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has paved the way for the establishment of the Kampala Marathon.

With an investment of USD 4.6 million, the prestigious event aims to attract elite runners from Uganda and around the world.

With an expected attendance of 20,000 runners, the event seeks to highlight the abundant talent of Ugandan elite runners while promoting tourism and economic growth throughout the region.

The marathon, scheduled to debut in November 2024, will feature a meticulously planned course, adhering to international standards and best practices.

A seasoned team, led by the Ministry of Education and Sports and assisted by renowned sports marketing agency Golazo, will oversee all aspects of the event's organization.

In attendance were esteemed dignitaries including Ambassador Dr. Amina J. Mohamed, former Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage, and Culture in Kenya, Mr. Bob Verbeeck, CEO & Founder of Golazo, Hon. Peter Ogwang, State Minister of Education responsible for Sports, and Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo, Presidential Advisor for Special Duties and Chairman of PACEID Uganda.

Hon. Peter Ogwang also informed President Museveni of the readiness for commissioning the National High Altitude Training center in Kapachorwa.

The gathering was graced by the presence of Ms. Ketty Lamaro, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports, and Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo, former Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between Uganda and Kenya in advancing sports and tourism initiatives
