Meet Zenna, the brain behind NBS’ morning Breeze as she talks about her rise from intern to producer.

Like Tom Ford said, ‘’ film and fashion are businesses where the audience doesn’t feel or see the work that goes on behind the scenes’’ the work of a great producer on a show like morning breeze often goes unnoticed .

Baker Zenna starts her work as early as 4am on from Monday - Thursday, she talked to POA TV’s Abdul Kimera in as exclusive interview.

Baker Zenna started her media journey as an intern reporter at NBS TV in 2012, she was majorly deployed to report Court related stories and she has never looked back; she’s now one of Uganda’s finest current affairs producers and show directors.

‘’I worked for three months on probation till I was retained as both a producer and a Court reporter’’ she says

Zenna defines who herself as a go-getter and a perfectionist says she decided to give a break to Court reporting in 2016 and decided to fully concentrate on producing the morning show a decision she doesn’t regret because to her she is currently producing the most authoritative current affairs morning show on the land.

‘’ I arrive for work at 5am and use that one hour to prepare all the material to be used and after I make calls to the teams I’m assigned to work with that morning and later brief them before the show starts at 6.30am’’ she explains

When asked about what is her best moment Zenna said that whenever she executes a successful show or project on any morning that only makes her feel relieved and more energized.

When asked if she leaves the station immediately after the end of the morning show, Zenna revealed to Kimera that it always depends on the days schedule and if need be she can take on more scheduled live broadcasts and she doesn’t leave office without attending brain storming meetings for the next day’s show which she engages in later in the day.

Although Baker Zenna has enjoyed some fruits of her dream, she opened up that it hasn’t been easy due to the numerous challenges including people that think women shouldn’t be given certain tasks because of  gender norms and beliefs about women ; she says it’s also not easy to balance the pressure from media and family.

Like any other person around the globe, the covid19 pandemic affected Zenna too for she lost people close to her but she always kept a positive mind that one day all shall be well and this kept her pushing.

When asked what she would want to be remembered for, Zenna with much joy and a big smile told Kimera that her commitment and hard work that made her rise from an intern to producing the biggest morning show in Uganda for ten years now is something she would wish to be  remembered for.

This novel and music enthusiast advised young girls out there who have dreams to be committed and passionate about any task given to them and to also set a good example ‘success has a simple formula and that’s to do your best and people out there may like it’ she concluded
