The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has taken yet another stride in promoting domestic tourism with the Explore North campaign. This initiative aims at encouraging Ugandans to explore the breathtaking beauty and cultural richness of their own country. During the flag-off ceremony at Uganda Museum Kampala, the Minister Martin Mugarra expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized the importance of domestic tourism in creating a resilient sector.

The Explore North campaign follows the successful promotion of domestic tourism in Elgon and Western Uganda, and it seeks to cover all the stunning destinations that Uganda has to offer. The Minister acknowledged the influencers and team members, including the likes of Jose Chameleon, Teacher Mpamire, and Moses Golola, who will be traveling alongside Ugandans to showcase and promote the beauty of the region. The media also received appreciation for their vital role in raising awareness and inspiring fellow citizens to explore their own backyard.

The COVID-19 pandemic taught Uganda's tourism sector the importance of resilience, and domestic tourism emerging as a key solution. The Minister highlighted the significant increase in the number of Ugandans visiting tourist sites, with the goal of surpassing one million visitors. By encouraging Ugandans to embrace domestic travel, the sector has witnessed substantial growth, contributing to the country's economic recovery.

Throughout the expedition, participants have embarked on a four-day adventure, immersing themselves in the diverse landscapes, history, and culture of Northern Uganda. From visiting historical sites and museums to exploring national parks and indulging in local cuisine, the journey promises a myriad of enriching experiences. The Minister emphasized the importance of sharing these experiences throughout social media and showcasing the affordability of travel within the country.

Addressing misconceptions about the cost of travel, the Minister highlighted the affordability of exploring Uganda's natural wonders. “Entry fees to popular destinations such as Murchison Falls National Park are remarkably low, and the road network enables easy access by small vehicles. Accommodation options are available at reasonable prices, making it accessible for families to embark on memorable adventures.” He said.

The Minister thanked Ugandans for their support and urged them to take advantage of the opportunities for travel within their own country. He emphasized that travel is affordable and the experiences are invaluable. By exploring Uganda's national parks, historical sites, and cultural treasures, citizens can contribute to the recovery and growth of the tourism sector.

As participants embark on this adventure, they will witness stunning landscapes, immerse themselves in local culture, and promote the wonders of Uganda through their social media platforms. Let us all embrace the spirit of exploration and uncover the hidden gems of Northern Uganda, fostering a sense of pride and appreciation for our remarkable nation.
