UPDF Alerts Nation of New ADF Infiltration; Urges Vigilance to Thwart Terrorist Attacks

In a press briefing held today, Colonel Deo Akiiki, the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson, disclosed concerning developments regarding the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) infiltration into Uganda.

Last year's harrowing incidents, marked by ADF terrorists' ruthless attacks on civilians and infrastructure, still linger fresh in memory, reminding the nation of the grave threat posed by such extremist elements.

Detailing the events of October 2023, Col. Akiiki recounted the infiltration of ten ADF terrorists, led by commanders Kamusi and Njovu, into Kasese district. The ensuing devastation included casualties among tourists, a vicious assault on Lhubiriha Secondary School resulting in student fatalities, and the destruction of a lorry transporting traders' goods.

Despite subsequent successful military operations that neutralized Kamusi and saw Njovu apprehended and facing trial, the specter of ADF terrorism continues to loom.

The recent intelligence reports reveal the infiltration of another ADF group, believed to be under the command of notorious bomb expert Abu Waqas, into Ugandan territory. 

Despite these victories, the threat persists, with intelligence confirming a recent infiltration led by notorious ADF commander Ahamed Muhamood Hassan, alias Abu Waqas, and his accomplices.

The UPDF, alongside other security agencies, remains on high alert, emphasizing the importance of citizen vigilance in identifying and reporting suspicious activities. Collaborative efforts with the Armed Forces of the DRC continue to target ADF hideouts, with operations extending into Eastern DRC.

Colonel Akiiki reiterated the grave risk posed by ADF terrorism, particularly in urban areas, places of worship, schools, and public gatherings. With ADF's continued intent to sow terror, the public is urged to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding communities.
