Museveni Commended for his Commitment to Modernizing UPDF

The Commander of the Special Forces Command, Maj Gen David Mugisha, has lauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his unwavering dedication to transforming the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) into a professional and modern military force.

Speaking at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola, Maj Gen Mugisha emphasized the President’s pivotal role in establishing UPDF training schools to enhance the force's capabilities.

“The President’s commitment to training and his desire to transform the UPDF from a rag-tag force to a modern, lethal, productive, hi-tech, and pro-people force made him prioritize establishing UPDF training schools,” Maj Gen Mugisha stated.

Representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Maj Gen Mugisha addressed the passing-out parade of officers and men who completed the Special Investigations Bureau Course, urging them to uphold core values such as loyalty, discipline, integrity, duty, honour, honesty, and courage.

Brig Gen Abdu Rugumayo, the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, commended the graduates for their exemplary technical standards, discipline, and commitment during the course.

He cautioned them about the challenges they would face in the field, particularly emphasizing the importance of avoiding corruption, favouritism, and discrimination in their duties.

Col James Muhumuza, Commandant of the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, highlighted the importance of continuous self-improvement in the face of evolving criminality, which is increasingly aided by advancements in science and technology.

“We have given you the basic skills, but you need to continue improving yourselves,” Col Muhumuza encouraged the graduates.

The ceremony was attended by senior and junior officers, including the Chief of Staff-Reserve Force.
