In his New Year’s address to the nation, the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni tasked the Education and Sports Ministry to come up with a proper approach on how to avoid traffic congestion in the CBD ahead of school reopening on the 10th. January. 2022.
The Ministry through has engaged stakeholders including security , the Works and Transport Ministry among others in the shortest time, to come up with the reopening plan of boarding students for primary and secondary schools in areas of Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono.
According to the plan, all A-level (S5-S6) and lower primary(P1-4) boarding students in the districts of Mpigi and Wakiso are to report to their respective schools on Monday 10th the scheduled day of school reopening and non of these students is allowed to report before this date.
On the next day on 11th January, A-level (S5-S6) and lower primary (P1-4) boarding students in the districts of Kampala and Mukono will follow the trend and as the other’s they are also not allowed to report before that date.
On the next day 12th January, O-level (S1-4) and upper primary (P5-7) boarding students in districts of Mpigi and Wakiso will be reporting back and on the next day the 13th January boarding students in districts of Kampala and Mukono will also be reporting to their respective schools.
The plan also revels that all day scholars are  entitled to report on the 10th of January regardless of those on the international school curriculum.

Though the reopening plan is scheduled by the Education and Sports Ministry some schools mainly in the rural areas of the country are still in un abnormal state which puts their reopening plans at stake.
Uganda has been the only country in the world that hadn’t  lifted the lockdown on schools and since its announcement in March 2020 learners have been home for a period close to two years.
