New UNCC Board of Trustees Sworn In
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has sworn in the new Board of Trustees for the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC).
Following the expiration of the previous board's mandate on June 25, 2022, the Cabinet recently approved the appointment of members to the Board of Trustees for the next three years.
"The newly appointed members bring a wealth of experience and expertise, ensuring a diverse and dynamic leadership team."
The newly appointed Board of Trustees are as follows;
- Prof. Okaka Opio D - Chairperson
- Ms. Phina Mugerwa - Vice Chairperson
- Mr. Bugingo Hannington - Member
- Ms. Lillian Mbabazi - Member
- Dr. Richard Komakech - Member
- Mr. Joseph Mayanja - Member
- Mr. Moses Ssali - Member
- Ms. Juliana A. Naumo - Member
"The Ministry recognizes the critical role of the UNCC in promoting Uganda's diverse cultural heritage and envisions the new board providing strategic policy direction to support artists' contributions to national development."
The board is tasked with strengthening governance within the cultural community, ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.
Building on the successes of the outgoing board, which included plans to establish theaters and cultural centers in various regions, the new trustees are tasked to further advance the UNCC's mission.
This includes fostering cultural exchange, promoting artistic expression, and accommodating societies, groups, and organizations with cultural, artistic, philanthropic, or educational purposes.
