Addressing 110 students gathered at African Bible University in Lubowa for a week-long event, Maj. Gen. Owinow drew upon his extensive military and academic experience to share valuable leadership insights.
He emphasized the importance of values such as purpose, humility, and consistency, urging the graduates to safeguard their reputation and remain open to continuous learning.
"Image is everything, the first impression is everything," Maj. Gen. Owinow stressed.
"Lead with a purpose, live with a purpose. Stay ahead by preparing yourself through research and reading, ensuring you are well-equipped to meet and lead others effectively."
He further advised the scholars to cultivate a mindset of quick learning and adaptability to navigate the ever-evolving global landscape, underscoring the weight of responsibility that comes with leadership.
The Equity Leaders Program, a mentorship initiative spearheaded by Equity Bank, has been instrumental in nurturing the potential of 319 students from various regions across Uganda since its inception in 2022.
The ongoing boot camp, now in its third day, has featured enlightening talks from top officials of Equity Bank, providing students with invaluable mentoring and insights from banking experts throughout the week.
In a session focused on integrity during the induction, Equity Bank's Head of Risk and Investigation, Moses Nsiima, imparted invaluable wisdom, advising the students to adopt a skeptical mindset.
"Assume nothing, take everything seriously. Believe nothing and check everything," Nsiima emphasized.
Ms. Sarah Nakazzi, Equity Bank’s Head of Compliance, emphasized the importance of setting personal goals.
"Let us have our own goals," she encouraged the scholars.
"This is an opportunity for you to start as Equity Leaders Program scholars cohort 3. It will take diligence to continue until the end."
